Thames Water has selected the AWARD® evaluation solution from Commerce Decisions together with BravoSolution’s tendering toolset to support the delivery of the £4.1bn Thames Tideway Tunnel.

The proposed Thames Tideway Tunnel is a major new sewer; urgently needed to help tackle the problem of combined sewage overflows from London’s Victorian sewer system and help protect the tidal River Thames from increasing pollution for at least the next 100 years. It will also enable the UK to comply with the EU’s Urban Waste Water Treatment Directive (UWWTD).
Tens of millions of tonnes of untreated sewage, combined with rain water runoff, overflows into the tidal River Thames every year from London’s sewerage network, via a system of 57 combined sewer overflows (CSOs). The proposed Thames Tideway Tunnel will be 7.2 metres in diameter, 65 metres underground at its deepest point and 25 kilometres long – making it one of the largest and deepest tunnels under London. The tunnel will broadly follow the route of the tidal River Thames so that it can intercept 24 of the worst polluting CSOs (as identified by the Environment Agency). Following the route of the river also means that the River Thames itself will be used to transport materials during construction, as well as minimising the number of existing buildings and structures the tunnel will pass beneath.
Thames Tideway Tunnel has selected Commerce Decisions and the AWARD® software, in partnership with BravoSolution’s eTendering toolset, to manage the approach and delivery of procurements for the works involved. The formal procurement process began at the end of March, following the acceptance of the projects development consent application by the Planning Inspectorate for public examination.
